The Color Purple

13 February 2018

CityKidz was extremely fortunate to be was offered tickets to see the musical The Color Purple by an organisation called Assitej, who provide theatre for youth. There were additional tickets available from our ticket allocation, so we offered the balance of tickets to Principal, Mandy Bailey, at Salvazione Private School. Salvazione is situated in Mayfair and it was fantastic to share the theatre experience with her 30 learners and 4 staff members.

The spectacular musical production of “The Color Purple” is based upon the 1982 novel written by Alice Walker and the 1985 motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg. In a review, critics were spot on when they described the Color Purple as: “glorious amongst musicals in that it entertains and ultimately uplifts audiences to a state of sheer joy, whilst taking them on a passionate journey of an inspiring family saga – telling the unforgettable story of a woman who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.”

Our children were thoroughly entertained, loved the dynamic performances and learned some valuable life lessons. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience which our children will not forget.

It was an absolute privilege to see the awesome and inspiring South African production. This is what theatre is all about! We would like to thank Thobile Chittenden and Assite for thinking of us.
