Grade 7 Career Day

21 October 2018
Career Day

Friday, 19 October, was Career Dress Up Day for the Grade 7’s. A great effort was made by children and their parents, to wear the attire of their chosen professions. Some hired costumes, others made the entire outfit, still others bought required items. It was evident that everyone had given time, care and effort to their dress-up. It turned out really well. Thank you to all.

The children had to deliver a short oral presentation on the career of their choice. Amongst the Grade 7’s the following career choices were expressed: 1 graphic designer, 6 doctors, 9 pilots, 3 chefs, 4 accountants, 2 air hostesses, 2 fashion designers, 2 psychologists, 1 mechanical engineer, 1 horse trainer, 1 businessman, 3 lawyers, 1 politician, 1 architect, 1 technological engineer, 2 IT technicians, 1 scientist, 2 soccer players, 1 video game designer and 1 prosecutor! High aspirations and an interesting array of work possibilities indeed.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy the company of guests to CityKidz, who presented in the form of a panel discussion about the world of work. We had Trevor Chikaura, head chef at the Saxon Hotel, Kamogelo Khatle, Candidate Attorney from Mkhabela Huntley Attorneys, Charlie Nkosi, Environmental Health Honours student at UJ and Sydney Mlilo from Umlilo Education. Each shared their knowledge and experience with us, and volunteered their time to benefit our learning. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to each of you.
