Our experience at Konka

Grade 7 Konka 2018

Our Grade 7's expressed their time at Konka in words. Here is what some of them had to say:

A Poem about Konka – Katlego Mahlatse 7A

“Zip” That’s the sound of a Zipline,

“Zip” that’s the sound of a soul adventure,

Where else can it be better?

KONKA - R1300,;

The cost of an Adventure,

Night hikes and so much in store;

That’s what Konka is for,

Team, which means ;

Together everyone achieves more,

That’s a soul Adventure.

Konka was a journey that taught me skills about independence. The facilitators were really an inspiration. They knew how to be assertive, but to still have fun. I admit that the challenges were hard, especially the mud obstacle course, which by the way was fun. They showed us hospitality and provided comfort. Konka was an amazing experience for my friends and I.

My experience at KONKA – Nsovo Mathebula 7A

My experience at Konka was amazing and fantastic. We had young trained youth facilitators who were fun to have around. The food there just improved my appetite at every second. We appreciated a lot of activities that included learning about Teamwork and Leadership. We were separated into 3 groups and l was in group 1. The challenges were far more difficult than we imagined they would be. We all realised that if we work as a team and not argue it would all work out.

When we went for the night hike, l was amazed by the natural world and the twinkling stars in the sky. I felt very independent because l was away from home and got time to spend with my teachers and classmates. The hardest activity was the mud obstacle course. I have never imagined myself crawling in mud. Certainly not the way I crawled around when was a child.

I am definitely missing the facilitators, Kumkani, Vee and Gummy Bear; of course l miss being at Konka. It has been the best experience of my life so far.

My experience – Noxolo Masekete Mdlankomo 7A

Our experience at Konka was very exciting, I enjoyed myself a lot. We played and did a lot of activities such as ‘’I am a dozer, dozer, dozer” and more. I mostly enjoyed the zip lining , archery , the mud obstacle course and the night hike. What l loved about the night hike was when we saw the animals and the shining stars at night. In the morning and afternoon there was a very beautiful view of the mountain that l loved. The food at Konka was delicious, mouth-watering and appetizing. Even though there were rules l enjoyed that little freedom l had. I really miss our facilitators Vuyi, Mahau and Kumkani, especially Kumkani. I loved sleeping in the dormitory because it had enough space for all the girls. Oh, l wish l could go back to KONKA!
