CityKidz WINS the WITS Spelling Bee Competition!
Well Done, Entle Maqukanya!! Four of our Grade 6 learners Entle Maqukanya,Tamia Ndlovu Nsovo Mathebula and Limbikani Kadango, with three Grade 5’s Siphamandla Ndlovu Nondumiso Dube and Siphwe Nokwe represented CityKidz at the WITS Spelling Bee at Wits University on Friday 01 of September.
Approximately twenty schools (more than 86 students battled it out to become the WITS Spelling Bee Champion) The Grade 5’s did very well during the heats. Unfortunately, they did not make it through to the finals, but it was important to provide them the opportunity to be exposed to this type of high-level competition. Three Grade 6’s , Entle,Tamia and Nsovo made it through to the finals. These three competitors made the top seven. After many gruelling rounds Tami and Nsovo were eliminated. Entle continued with great fortitude and confidence and spelled all her words right. It was a battle to the end and eventually after many rounds Entle was declared the winner. She was brilliant and it was certainly a well-deserved win!
Huge congratulations to all our learners who took part in the WITS Spelling Bee. They all worked incredibly hard to prepare themselves for this challenge by spending many extra hours learning their words. Every competitor should be proud of this achievement and for being such fantastic ambassadors for CityKidz. Thank you - we are so very proud of you!
