Sports Day 2018

Sports Day 2018

Once again CityKidz held their Sports Day at the Johannesburg Cricket Grounds in Bertrams. This was the perfect venue given its location, space and on-site facilities.

Early morning rains threatened to spoil our Sports Day plans. We decided to place our trust in the weather report which indicated that from 8am onwards the weather should clear up and by 12pm it should be partly sunny.  It was “touch and go” as we waited it out to make a decision as to postpone or go ahead with the day. As luck would have it the rain abated. Many staff were elated as they had planned and prepared for the day.   Messages were sent out on all group chats informing parents that the sports day would go ahead, but start an hour later.

The first even kicked off at 9am. Several athletes did not arrive but we continued with the program. Sports Day allowed children to showcase some of the skills they have learnt in P.E.T. Other events included the Sack Race, Bean Bag Throw and Egg and Spoon. The competition was stiff from Eland and Impala but Roan was declared the winning house!

Many of the children commented that "this was the best Sports Day ever". Our sports days are not the traditional school sports events and we adapt accordingly. Mrs Krain commented that "this Sports Day was incredibly fun and filled with such spirit.”

This day was made extra special by the fantastic turn out from the parents, in spite of the earlier weather conditions, and the effort and enthusiasm shown by the children.

The principal and staff thanks all parents for their support and enthusiasm.
