Grade 5 learners discover the richness of South African Culture at Lesedi Cultural Village The Grade 5 learners were delighted to wake up to a sunny, but icy winter’s morning for their much-anticipated trip to Lesedi Cultural Village, in the North West Province.
The visit began with an energetic traditional dance display. The lively drumming, rhythmic movements and beautiful traditional clothing provided an exciting introduction to the cultural experience that lay ahead. The learners then had the opportunity to visit the different cultural villages representing the Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi and Basotho people. As they moved from one village to another, they learned about traditional homes, customs and ways of life of these communities. One of the most rewarding aspects of the day was seeing our learners make connections between what they were experiencing and what they have already learned at school. Their Social Sciences - History lessons became tangible as they were able to experience the richness of South African culture for themselves. They enthusiastically shared their knowledge with the guides and with one another, piecing together information from their classroom learning and their experiences at Lesedi.
The educational experience continued with an informative film, followed by an interactive drumming session. There were plenty of smiles and some very enthusiastic drumming. After all the exploring and activity, everyone was ready for a delicious traditional lunch of wors, pap and sauce. It was the perfect meal to enjoy together after such a busy morning. We were incredibly proud of the learners throughout the day. Their excellent behaviour and exemplary manners were a wonderful reflection of our school. They interacted positively with the tour guides, showed genuine interest in the activities and represented CityKidz with pride.
Our visit to Lesedi Cultural Village was a memorable day filled with sunshine, laughter, learning and culture. It was a day that our Grade 5 learners will remember for many years to come.
