What an exciting and heartwarming day it was at CityKidz when we welcomed a delegation from ISASA (Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa). We were honoured to host Lebogang Montjane, Tshepo Motsepe, Wayne Stuurman, and Mary Williams, along with our very special guest of honour, Dr Anand Mahadevan.
From the moment he arrived, Dr Mahadevan's warmth was felt by everyone around him. Our school prefects proudly led the guests on a tour around the school, beaming as they showed off everything that makes CityKidz home. He was gracious, engaging, and genuinely present with every learner, teacher, and little one he met — the kind of visitor who makes an entire school feel seen and celebrated.
A Gentle, Curious Engagement with Our Learners Dr Mahadevan engaged with our learners and asked them thoughtful, insightful questions about what they knew about Canada. He listened with real interest, and their confident, knowledgeable answers left him absolutely blown away. It was a beautiful exchange — a reminder of just how much our children have to offer when someone takes the time to truly engage with them. He was equally moved by what he saw around our school, sharing how impressed he was with our AI Robotics Room and expressing genuine admiration for what a beautiful, welcoming centre CityKidz has built for its children. Warm Words for Our Grade 7 Leaders One of the most touching moments of the day was Dr Mahadevan's conversation with our Grade 7 leaders, who shared their unforgettable experience speaking with astronauts. He listened intently, clearly delighted, and was especially charmed by their "tear drop" question — a small moment that seemed to stay with him. Cuddles and Smiles at CityTotz and CityBabez His warmth extended right down to our tiniest learners. Dr Mahadevan spent gentle, joyful moments with our babies and toddlers at CityTotz and City Babez, and it was clear this was a man who lit up around children of every age. Little Presentations and a Proud Walkabout Our learners prepared special little presentations for the delegation, sharing their talents with pride.
A Gift to Treasure Before he left, Dr Mahadevan presented us with four carefully chosen, amazing books reflecting the rich history and culture of Canada, along with a beautifully written card that we will always cherish. It was a thoughtful gesture that captured the spirit of his visit perfectly — generous, considered, and full of heart. It was a day filled with warmth, connection, and joy — made all the more special by a guest of honour whose kindness and genuine interest in our children left a lasting impression on everyone at CityKidz. We hope to welcome Dr Mahadevan and the ISASA delegation back again very soon!
