The Grade 5's were given a practical task to complete at home and provide evidence. They were given bonus points to prove that the experiment was conducted.
Every child submitted the practical. And many provided excellent evidence.
- Problem: Investigate ways of making old and dull metal objects shiny again.
- Material List: dull coins, white vinegar, water, black tea; three saucers. Write down what you think will happen and what you want to find out.
- Procedure: (Always take precautions when carrying out experiments and working with apparatus and liquids.) You will need to place equal amount of each liquid into each saucer. Put a coin in each liquid and leave for 20 minutes. Remove the coins after 20 minutes.
You can also try this at home. Observe and record your findings. List the variables that could affect your results. What are the actual results?
