On Thursday 12 October our Grade 2 learners were transported back into time. They visited Greensleeves Medieval Kingdom. This excursion was definitely a school outing with a difference by allowing our children to immerse themselves in the Medieval period.
The day started with a Medieval History Tour. We learnt about castles, knights, weaponry, armour and lots more… Most of our learners had the opportunity to demonstrate their strength by lifting up various weapons such as the Halberd, Battle Axe, Billhook, Poleaxe and Crossbow . A little lad showed bravery by donning the heavy helmet called the Hounskull worn by Knights during the Medieval Era.
The tour ended when two lucky children were chosen as King and Queen of the Feast and sat at their rightful place on the throne.
Thou did eat most well! The Medieval feast was served by the Baron, His Minstrel and the wenches of the Kingdom.
The kids enjoyed Pottage, home baked Manchet bread and syllabub (ice-cream).
I know that this excursion was extraordinary and this experience will remain with our kids forever .
Finally, the Baron bid thee farewell and from us... Long Live the King and Queen of Greensleeves!
